One of Finland’s largest architectural and interior design companies, Lukkaroinen Architects, appoints Merja Pesonen as the new Managing Director. The current Managing Director, Mikko Lukkaroinen, will transition to the board and advisory roles.

Merja Pesonen (40), Architect SAFA, who currently serves as the Design Director of Lukkaroinen Architects, will assume the position of Managing Director in March.
Lukkaroinen Architects, which operates nationwide in Finland, employs over 100 design professionals in Oulu, Helsinki, Turku, and Kokkola. The company provides a wide range of architectural, interior design, and urban planning services to both the public and private sectors. The company is particularly known for its expertise in designing learning environments and healthcare facilities. Some notable projects include the Laakso Joint Hospital in Helsinki, the new ward building at Jorvi Hospital in Espoo, the Future Hospital OYS in Oulu, the Kuopio Senior High School of Arts (Lumit), the Keravajoki Multipurpose Center, and the Pudasjärvi Log Campus. The company’s revenue exceeded 10 million euros in 2023.
Merja Pesonen, who hails from Oulu, has extensive and diverse experience as both a designer and a leader at Lukkaroinen Architects. She has been part of the company’s growth story since 2007, starting as a summer employee and architecture student, and later becoming a manager, partner, and board member.
“As Managing Director, I want to contribute to building a stronger culture of collaboration in the design and construction industry. Good architecture can create well-being for both people and the environment and has a significant impact on sustainable economy,” says Pesonen.
This year, Lukkaroinen Architects is celebrating its 45th anniversary. Mikko Lukkaroinen, who has served as the Managing Director since 2014, will assume the role of Chairman of the Board and Senior Advisor.
