Solwers Plc Press Release 08.02.2024 at 09:00 EEST

The planning for the extensive renovation project of Kela's culturally significant main office has begun. The architectural and principal design responsibilities are entrusted to Architects Davidsson Tarkela Oy, a part of the Solwers companies.

Designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto between 1953-1956, Kela's main office in Taka-Töölö, Helsinki, is in need of comprehensive renovation.

Considered as one of the Aaltos' most successful buildings, this culturally significant complex pays attention to even the smallest details and material choices. The renovation of the building requires specialized expertise and close collaboration with both the Finnish Heritage Agency and the Alvar Aalto Foundation.

Architects Davidsson Tarkela specializes in challenging heritage sites and cross-organisational collaborations. Their recent projects include architectural and lead design work on the renovation of the Finnish National Theatre, designed by Onni Tarjanne, and the renovation of the Lahti City Hall, designed by Eliel Saarinen.

The recently initiated project planning for the renovation of Kela’s main office focuses first on defining the renovation needs and future operations.
